When to visit

Best time, weather and events

Buenos Aires is in the southern hemisphere, so its seasons are the reverse of Europe's and North America's. It is a year-round city, but spring and autumn are when it is at its best.

🌤️ The seasons at a glance

🌸 Spring (September–November)

Highs of 18–26 °C

The best time to go: mild temperatures, busy terraces and, in November, jacaranda trees turning avenues and squares lilac. A packed cultural calendar.

☀️ Summer (December–February)

Highs of 28–31 °C, very humid

Sticky heat and heavy storms. In January many locals go on holiday: the city is quieter, but some restaurants and theatres close.

🍂 Autumn (March–May)

Highs of 18–26 °C

Just as pleasant as spring, less humid than summer, with golden parks in Palermo.

🧥 Winter (June–August)

8–16 °C

Cool and sometimes grey, but never snowy. It is peak season for opera, theatre and tango, and hotel prices drop.

🌟 Our pick: October to mid-December, or March to May. Good walking weather and the whole city in full swing.

🎉 Dates worth planning around

Night of the Museums · November

One night a year, more than 250 museums and cultural venues open for free until the early hours.

Argentine Open Polo · November–December

The world's most important polo tournament, at the Campo Argentino de Polo in Palermo.

Tango Festival and World Championship · August

Two weeks of classes, milongas and free concerts, ending with the world dance championship final.

Bank holiday weekends

Argentina has many long weekends: locals leave the city and some businesses close. Check the public holiday calendar before you book.

See the city's events section in the app for what is on during your trip.

💡 GuideMapp tip: Buenos Aires runs late. Dinner starts after 9 pm, shows begin at 10 pm and milongas only get going after midnight. Plan your sightseeing for the mornings and keep your evenings free.
