Best time, weather and events
Prague is lovely all year round, but it changes a lot with the seasons: from long summer evenings to snowy Christmas markets. Spring and early autumn offer the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds.
🌤️ The seasons at a glance
🌸 Spring (April–May)
The gardens and Petřín Hill burst into bloom, there are Easter markets and the city isn't packed yet. Bring a jacket: mornings are still chilly.
☀️ Summer (June–August)
Long days, riverside terraces and beer gardens. This is peak season: the centre gets crowded and hotel prices rise. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible.
🍂 Autumn (September–October)
A great time to go: pleasant temperatures, golden parks and fewer visitors than in summer. October brings the Signal light festival.
❄️ Winter (November–March)
Properly cold with short days, but also the most magical time: Christmas markets and, with luck, snow on the rooftops. January and February are quieter, with cheaper hotels.
🎉 Dates worth planning around
Christmas markets · 28 November 2026 – 6 January 2027
The best known are on Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, with a huge lit-up tree, mulled wine and craft stalls. Open daily, roughly 10:00–22:00.
Easter markets · March or April
The same squares fill with stalls selling painted eggs and seasonal treats in the weeks before Easter.
Prague Spring Festival · from 12 May
One of Europe's leading classical music festivals, with concerts at the Rudolfinum, the Municipal House and other historic venues for around three weeks.
Signal Festival · October
For four nights, artists project light installations and video mapping onto buildings and squares across the city. Many installations are free.
