Getting there

Flights, trains and ways to arrive

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) is about 11 km from the centre and well connected. If you arrive by train, the main station is Campanhã.

✈️ From the airport to the centre

🚇 Metro line E (purple) · the best option

  • Price: Z4 ticket, €2.30 + €0.60 for the Andante card (first time only).
  • Time: about 30 minutes to Trindade, in the centre.
  • Frequency: roughly every 20–30 minutes, from 6:00 until after midnight.

Buy from the machine at the airport station. ⚠️ Ask for a Z4 ticket: a Z2 is not valid for this journey.

🚌 STCP bus

  • Routes: 601, 602 and 604 by day; 3M at night.
  • Price: €2.50 if you pay on board (by card or phone). Cheaper with an Andante card.
  • Time: 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic.

Mainly useful late at night, when the metro has stopped.

🚕 Taxi, Uber or Bolt

  • Taxi: approx. €25–35 to the centre, plus night or luggage supplements.
  • Uber / Bolt: approx. €15–25, depending on demand.
  • Time: 20–30 minutes.

Worth it for three or four people, or if you land very late.

🚆 Arriving by train or coach

  • From Lisbon: the Alfa Pendular or Intercidades train takes about 3 hours to Campanhã. From there, a suburban train gets you to São Bento, right in the centre, in 5 minutes (long-distance tickets usually include it).
  • From Galicia (Spain): the Celta train links Vigo and Porto in about 2 h 30 min.
  • By coach: FlixBus, ALSA and Rede Expressos arrive from Spain and the rest of Portugal, mostly at the Campanhã terminal.
💡 GuideMapp tip: if you come by car, you won't need it in Porto. Look for accommodation with parking, or leave the car at a park-and-ride by the metro. Watch out for tolls: some Portuguese motorways are electronic-only, so check with your rental company.
