Tips for a worry-free trip

Seville is a very safe city to visit. The most common problems are minor and easy to avoid, and in summer the biggest real risk is the heat.

👛 Pickpockets

They work wherever there are crowds: the queues at the Cathedral and the Alcázar, Santa Cruz, packed buses and, above all, the crowds of Holy Week and the April Fair. Wear your backpack on your front in busy places and keep your phone out of back pockets.

🚩 Situations to avoid

  • The rosemary women: near the Cathedral and the Alcázar, women offer you a sprig of rosemary "for luck" or read your palm, then insist on payment. Don't take anything and keep walking.
  • Petitions for a supposed charity: often a distraction for theft. Just say no.
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides: agree the price and duration before you get in.

🌙 At night

The centre, Triana and the Alameda are lively and calm until late. As in any city, avoid empty, poorly lit streets in the small hours. To get back late, take a taxi or a ride-hailing car.

⚠️ Watch out for the heat. From June to September temperatures often top 40 °C. Drink water even if you're not thirsty, stay out of the sun from 13:00 to 18:00 and rest indoors. Dizziness, a headache or hot, dry skin can be signs of heatstroke: find shade and call 112.

If you're robbed, report it at a National Police station: you'll need the report for your insurance. Pharmacies have a green cross, and there's always one on duty, posted on the door of the others.
